We have set up an adoption scheme for some of our resident animals, including foxes, owls, potbellied pigs, a kestrel, crow, and even an iguana. Pictures of the animals, and brief details, are shown below at the bottom of this page.
We ask for a minimum donation of £25, for which you will receive:
a picture of the animal you have chosen to adopt; the story of how the animal came to be here; a copy of our latest newsletter; a 'Friends of the Wood' badge; and a certificate of adoption. You may also come to visit your adopted animal, however this must be by appointment only. You may of course also adopt an animal as a gift for someone else.
The money raised from these adoptions will go towards new enclosures for the residents and their food.
For further details please call us on 01565 755082, or use the form on the contact page.
Animals available for adoption Adopt a Fox Mara (Red Fox)
Having been hit by a car as a cub, Mara was taken to the local vet, where she was operated on, to remove her tail. She was then reared by one of the vet nurses. She became too tame, to be released back into the wild. She is now a resident at the wood and has taken on the role of foster mum, to our yearly intake of cubs.
Mara can be adopted.
Talek (Red Fox)
Housed in a parrot cage as a cub. He was kept in a back garden and fed on scraps. Talek was removed and rehomed at Lower Moss Wood. He now shares an enclosure with Mara, as part of the fostering programme.
Talek can be adopted.
Adopt an Owl Tawny Owls Titch (Tawny OWL)
Titch has been here for six years, she too was an imprinted bird, found starving in the wild.
Titch can be adopted.
Clicky (Tawny Owl)
Number One! That's Clicky's claim to fame. Clicky was the first critter to arrive at Lower Moss Wood in the summer of 1989. Nineteen years on and she is still going strong.
Clicky can be adopted.
European Eagle Owls Mo (European Eagle Owl)
Mo is a companion for our other Eagle Owl, Jake.
Mo can be adopted.
Jake (European Eagle Owl)
Jake was an escapee found in Macclesfield. He is now in an enclosure with Mo our other Eagle Owl.
Jake can be adopted.
Other Owls Fungus (Barn Owl)
The only survivor of three, Fungus was taken from the wild by some young boys. He was then confiscated by two adults, who took advice how to rear him. Unfortunately they tamed Fungus, so he was unable to be returned to the wild. He now has a role in our education programme.
Fungus can be adopted.
Other animals you can adopt Hoggit
A present for our "Boss" on his 50th Birthday. He came to us from Shewsbury. He is very sweet and is getting used to us all. He is a keen eater and can't wait for you to serve him his dinner.
Nanyuki (Kestrel)
Nanyuki was admitted to our intensive care unit with two broken legs sustained when she was caught in a rat trap. We successfully treated the fractures but unfortunately the trauma had damaged some tendons and after further time in an outside flight it became apparent that she would not be able to hunt for herself again.
Nanyuki can be adopted.
Stella (Green Iguana)
Stella can be adopted.
Louis (Crow)
Louis had been released after being hand reared. He soon became a nuisance, going into peoples houses stealing, he even ventured into a local supermarket. Eventually he had to be recaptured. He has become one of the favourites amongs the volunteers. He is now known as the ASBO crow.
Louis can be adopted.
