Adopt one of our resident animals

 

We have set up an adoption scheme for some of our resident animals, including foxes, owls, potbellied pigs, a kestrel, crow, and even an iguana. Pictures of the animals, and brief details, are shown below at the bottom of this page.

We ask for a minimum donation of ?25, for which you will receive:

  • a picture of the animal you have chosen to adopt;
  • the story of how the animal caame to be here;
  • a copy of our latest newsletter;
  • a 'Friends of the Wood' badge;
  • and a certificate of adoption.

You may also come to visit your adopted animal, however this must be by appointment only.You may of course also adopt an animal as a gift for someone else.

The money raised from these adoptions will go towards new enclosures for the residents and their food.

Animals available for adoption

Adopt a Fox

 Mara (Red Fox) 3 years old 
Having been hit by a car as a cub, Mara was taken to the local vet, where she was operated on, to remove her tailHaving been hit by a car as a cub, Mara was taken to the local vet, where she was operated on, to remove her tail. She was then reared by one of the vet nurses. She became too tame, to be released back into the wild. She is now a resident at the wood and has taken on the role of foster mum, to our yearly intake of cubs.
Mara can be adopted.

 Talek (Red Fox) 3 years old 
Housed in a parrot cage as a cubHoused in a parrot cage as a cub. He was kept in a back garden and fed on scraps. Talek was removed and rehomed at Lower Moss Wood. He now shares an enclosure with Mara, as part of the fostering programme. Talek can be adopted.

Tawny Owls

 Fleck and Rusty (Tawny Owls) 
Fleck and rusty came from the RSPCA to recoperate and regrow their flight feathers, ready to be releasedFleck and rusty came from the RSPCA to recoperate and regrow their flight feathers, ready to be released. However they never did so they are now living with us.
Fleck and Rusty can be adopted.

 Titch (Tawny OWL) 5 years old 
Titch has been here for four years, she too was an imprinted bird, found starving in the wildTitch has been here for four years, she too was an imprinted bird, found starving in the wild.
Titch can be adopted.

 Clicky (Tawny Owl) 17 years old 
Number One! That's Clicky's claim to fameNumber One! That's Clicky's claim to fame. Clicky was the first critter to arrive at Lower Moss Wood in the summer of 1989. Seventeen years on and she is still going strong.
Clicky can be adopted.

European Eagle Owls

 Hooter (European Eagle Owl) 10 years old 
Hooter was kept as a pet, but was neglectedHooter was kept as a pet, but was neglected. Hooter's owners handed her over, after we had suggested that Jake needed a companion.
Hooter can be adopted.

 Jake (European Eagle Owl) 10 year old 
Jake was an escapee found in MacclesfieldJake was an escapee found in Macclesfield. He is now in an enclosure with Hooter our other Eagle Owl.
Jake can be adopted.

Other Owls

 Fungus (Barn Owl) 5 years old 
The only survivor of three, Fungus was taken from the wild by some young boysThe only survivor of three, Fungus was taken from the wild by some young boys. He was then confiscated by two adults, who took advice how to rear him. Unfortunately they tamed Fungus, so he was unable to be returned to the wild. He now has a role in our education programme.
Fungus can be adopted.

 Miah (Bengal Eagle Owl) (African)  
Miah is a new arrivalMiah is a new arrival. He was found on the doorstep of a house in Bury. Full story to follow. He has been named after a Bengali friend of ours, who makes a mean curry.

Other animals you can adopt

 Hoggit 
We have some sad new to bring you, Pearl had a stroke and had to be sent to piggy heavenWe have some sad new to bring you, Pearl had a stroke and had to be sent to piggy heaven. We did however get a new pig called Hoggit. A present for our "Boss" on his 50th Birthday.He came to us from Shewsbury. He is six years old and is very sweet and is gettin used to us all. He is a keen eater and can't wait for you to serve him, his dinner. Pearl will be sadly missed by all, as she was with us for a long time.

 Rosie (Kestrel) 22 years old 
After spending the first fifteen years at a sanctuary in Winsford, Rosie was transferred to Lower Moss Wood, as her former owner could no longer look after her, due to old ageAfter spending the first fifteen years at a sanctuary in Winsford, Rosie was transferred to Lower Moss Wood, as her former owner could no longer look after her, due to old age. Rosie is well in her twenties, but still looks in fine shape.
Rosie can be adopted.

 Damian (Potbellied Pig) 10 years old 
Damian was found wandering the streets of RuncornDamian was found wandering the streets of Runcorn. He had a severe case of Sarcoptic Mange. Abandoned from a car, he was left to fend for himself. We cured him of his condition and introduced him to Pearl (our female Potbellied Pig). It was love at first sight. Damian Sadly Died in January.

 Louis (Crow) 2 years old 
Louis had been released after being hand rearedLouis had been released after being hand reared. He soon became a nuisance, going into peoples houses stealing, he even ventured into a local supermarked. Eventually he had to be recaptured. He has become one of the favourites amongs the volunteers. He is now known as the ASBO crow.
Louis can be adopted.
