Karen Phillips is the resident artist for the Lower Moss Wood Educational Nature Reserve and Wildlife Hospital. BiographyWith over 15 years experience in graphite pencil drawing, I am a
professional artist specialising in wildlife art and portraits.
Self
taught, my only formal art training was to GCSE level art where I experimented
with a variety of different media, before finding my real passion for graphite
pencil drawing. I showed an early talent for capturing the character and emotion
of my subjects
After gaining my BSc in Applied Biology from Bristol and
working as a successfully published research scientist specialising in Genetics,
I decided to re-train to learn more about business. I gained my MSc in Human
Resource Management from UMIST/Manchester School of Management and qualified as
a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development in one year.
There followed a highly successful corporate career. After having my son, I
decided to take the opportunity to explore and develop my artistic talents
further.
Drawing has always been a passion with private commissions
being accepted. My work is held in private collections in the UK, Europe, the
USA and Australia.
I work every day from my studio at home in Cheshire,
often spending weeks capturing the immense detail of a drawing resulting in
incredibly realistic pieces.
I am a keen member of The Cheshire Wildlife
Trust and my neighbouring private wildlife reserves at Lower Moss Wood Wildlife
Hospital and Education Centre and Plumley.
I am an active member of the
Society for All Artists (SAA) and The Wildlife Art Society International (TWASI)
alongside well-known wildlife artists such as Pollyanna Pickering, David
Shepherd and Simon Trapnell. I'm also an active member of the Marwell
International Wildlife Art Society (MIWAS) alongside well-known wildlife artists
such as Pip McGarry, Vic Bearcroft and Paul Apps.
I am proactively
involved in supporting art in my local community as a member of the Goostry and
Holmes Chapel Art Society with whom I exhibit twice a year.
