Helping with your Risk assessment

At Lower Moss Wood we have been taking actions to help you with your risk assessment for your class visit.

The Classroom

We have recently had a fire check by a fire officer from The Cheshire County Fire Brigade of all our facilities, and have take action on their recommendations. We have new appropriate fire extinguishers that will be checked on a yearly contract.

There is a fully serviceable first aid kit in the classroom that will be regularly checked and replenished whe necessary.

The classroom will be heated and used as a refuge in inclement weather.

The toilets have three cubicles and four urinals. There is a screen separating the urinals. As we have only one mixed facility we recommend that visits to the toilet are monitored and single sex.

The Walk

All dangerous overhanging branches have been removed from the pathways and any new hazards will be acted upon as and when they happen.

The children are able to see domestic rescued animals on the walk in our pets' corner, but this is strictly a hands-off area. Petting the animals is not encouraged. The children will be informed on how the animals arrived at the centre, and told about their well-being and their sad but sometimes amusing tales.

There are picnic tables provided for the children to have their lunch and washing facilities at the W.C. If the weather is cold or wet they can eat their lunch in the classroom.

The Pond

All direct access to the water is now restricted. Pond-dipping platforms have been erected at various points all around the water's edge. These make it easy to supervise children on this activity. There is a lifebelt placed in a prominent position at the pond. Children will only be allowed to pond-dip under strict supervision.

If there are any issues that you need to address then please don't hesitate to contact us. We hope this goes some way in assisting you with your risk assessment.
